Formulations for poorly soluble drugs
Many new drug substances have a poor solubility and/or slow dissolution rate. This often causes problems like poor and variable bioavailability as well as slow onset of action. Fortunately, there are a number of options available for a skilled formulator to address these problems.
In order to increase solubility we work with salt selection, pH-adjustments, co-solvents, surfactants and complexation with cyclodextrins. We can also prepare amorphous drug substance by spray drying. The dissolution rate can be increased by micronisation or wet milling to nanosize particles.
Through a collaboration with Synthonics Inc. we offer a new method to improve solubility – metal coordinated complexes.
