Associate Scientist / Senior Associate Scientist, Plasmid Upstream Process Development

Recipharm Advanced Bio is seeking an Associate Scientist (I–II) or Senior Associate Scientist (internally coded as Associate III) to join our Plasmid Upstream Process Development team. We are looking for a scientist with enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, and scientific rigor who is eager to contribute to innovative process development and help drive our continued growth. This role will support the development of upstream platforms for plasmid production and deliver customer projects supporting cell and gene therapy applications. The position also offers exposure to cross-training in plasmid upstream development, tech transfer, GMP scale-up, and related analytics.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize scalable bacterial fermentation processes for plasmid production
  • Conduct analytical assays to monitor processes and characterize plasmid output (e.g., small-scale purification, gel electrophoresis, sequencing)
  • Perform DNA cloning, maintain cell banks, and manage plasmid libraries
  • Collaborate with downstream PD, analytics, engineering, GMP manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Maintain laboratory functionality, including equipment upkeep and supply management
  • Prepare and review documentation (lab notebooks, process development reports, SOPs, tech transfer records)
  • Contribute to a positive, results-oriented team environment by demonstrating Recipharm Advanced Bio’s values and culture
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • Associate Scientist I: B.S. with 0–2 years of relevant industry experience
  • Associate Scientist II: B.S. with 1–3 years of relevant industry experience
  • Senior Associate Scientist (internally Associate III): B.S. with 2–6 years of relevant industry experience in biotech/pharma
  • Hands-on skills in bacterial culture and bioreactor operations
  • Experience in plasmid production and purification; E. coli highly preferred (other microbial experience a plus)
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility for occasional early morning or evening lab work as needed
