Role Summary
The Director, Business Development will be responsible for driving growth across Recipharm Advanced Bio’s portfolio by identifying, developing, and closing new client partnerships. This individual will manage strategic accounts in the Greater Boston / New England biotech hub and build long-term relationships with biopharma innovators advancing next-generation therapies.
This role will report to the Head of Business Development – Biologics (currently a vacant position) and, in the interim, will report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, Neil Jones.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead business development across xRNA therapies, viral vectors, live biotherapeutics, and recombinant vaccines, covering process development, GMP manufacturing, and sterile fill/finish.
• Build and execute territory and key account strategies focused on the Boston / New England biotech ecosystem.
• Leverage an established professional network in nucleic acids, mRNA, and related advanced therapy areas to identify and cultivate new client opportunities.
• Generate new business through industry networking, conferences, referrals, and targeted outreach.
• Deliver technical and commercial presentations, lead proposals and negotiations, and close new business opportunities.
• Partner with internal stakeholders (process development, manufacturing, project management, quality, engineering) to scope solutions and support seamless client onboarding.
• Provide pipeline visibility and regular updates to senior leadership.
• Represent Recipharm Advanced Bio at industry meetings, conferences, and client site visits/audits.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (M.S. or MBA) strongly preferred. A life sciences background is a plus (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Microbiology).
• 5+ years’ experience in CDMO/pharma/biotech business development with a strong track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals.
• Demonstrated CDMO experience and an established customer network in nucleic acids (mRNA, plasmid DNA, LNPs) and other advanced therapy areas.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Entrepreneurial mindset; results-oriented, proactive, and collaborative.
• Willingness to travel up to 50%, including for conferences, customer visits, and meetings at the Watertown site.
Location: Greater Boston area (with regular presence at the Watertown, MA site).
