Over the years, there have been a number of developments in drug dosage formulation and the impact of these on the pharmaceutical industry have changed the way companies are approaching dosage form selection.

There is also an increasingly huge amount of importance placed on ensuring “user-friendliness” when it comes to drug dosage formulation to aid patient compliance.

There are several trends driving these developments. The first is the influx of interest in products that are tailored for smaller groups of patients, such as products for orphan diseases. The second is the increased interest in developing products with improved efficiency or reduced side effects based on current and well-known active ingredients. The third is the increased interest in the development of parenteral products.

There is also an increasingly huge amount of importance placed on ensuring “user-friendliness” when it comes to drug dosage formulation to aid patient compliance. No medicine will have the intended effect if it is not taken correctly and user-friendliness can improve compliance with medication regimens.
